Raise your hand if you're on Pinterest! I'm imagining pretty little manicured fingers everywhere sticking straight up in the air. I spend more time than I should admit browsing the fashion photos and pinning to my "style" boards and I bet most of you are doing the same, right? Instead of just pinning these style inspirations, what if we took it a step further and actually gave them a home in your closet instead?
The process of recreating a pinterest outfit might seem at first to be a little overwhelming and time consuming, but I promise you it doesn't have to be either of the two. To acheive the look you love you don't need to go out and buy all the pieces new, you can make substitutions and use what's already hanging around.
Here's a few tips:
1. Pin everything you like. Even if you don't have a single item already you never know when you might pick something up (or find something in the back of your closet) that will allow you to recreate the look you love.
2. Look for themes in the photos you are pinning. If you're seeing a certain item repeat a lot like a cozy grey cardigan or great pair of riding boots, add it to your shopping list.
3. Be open to your own interpretation of a look. Maybe the girl in the photo is wearing leggings as pants and that doesn't work for you, substitute with skinny jeans. Maybe you don't have the red cardigan to go with the leopard flats, subsitute the green cardigan in your closet. It's about using the photos as inspiration, not necessarily recreating the exact outfit all the time.
4. Plan ahead-save a few of your favorites to your phone, that way you can flip through quickly and head to the closet to recreate.
Here's the photo inspiration, and here's how I recreated it using my steps above.
I actually owned all these pieces (minus the watch, Christmas list, Christmas list!!) but would never had thought to put it together...thank you Pinterest :)
I put my own spin on this one. Tucking in the shirt wasn't the best look for me and I also added some short combat boots for a little edge to balance the sweet polka dots and teal. (again, the watch!)
I loved this so much that I added the plaid shirt to my shopping list- it was a great black Friday score!
Were these tips helpful? Will you be bringing a little more Pinterest into your closet anytime soon? I'd love to hear from you!
